A Complete Guide on Things to Do in Bora Bora with Family
06 Mar 2024
If you are thinking of one of the most picturesque destinations in the world for your holidays, you should consider Bora Bora. This name is something most travel advisors will suggest if you ask them for a place where you and your family can enjoy a quiet but fun trip. If you are thinking of this place as an alternative to island destinations close to your city or country, think again. This small group of islands is way away from major population centers, with New Zealand and Hawaii far away. So, consider it if you want to experience true silence.
Organize your trip easily
Getting here is not easy and it will be an adventure in itself. There are no direct international flights to these islands from major cities of the USA or other countries. It has an airport of itself, but it receives flights from the islands that are not far and one of them is Tahiti. You can get to Faa'a International Airport or Tahiti International Airport, another name for the same airport that receives international flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, Auckland, Paris, Seattle and Honolulu in Hawaii among others. If you are in one of the Polynesian islands, you may be able to find flights to this airport or directly to Bora Bora. From this small airport, you will need to catch boat rides to get to the islands with accommodations.
You are welcome all year round
The temperatures in these islands stay the same throughout the year, which means that you don’t need to wait till summer for your holidays if you have chosen Bora Bora. These islands are ideal for family travel as there will be no one to disturb you or interrupt your conversations. You will be able to bond together better and enjoy each other’s company. You should also choose this destination if you want to get to a beach resort with no one to intrude on your privacy. You will be able to do here what you will be able to do at any beach destination.
Above and below the ocean surface
Before you get here you should make arrangements for accommodation as you will be in trouble if you are not able to find a suitable one. The accommodation here is also a postcard for most of you to get here with bungalows over the lagoons. These are interesting sites to look at and the photos you capture will speak of your exploits here. The coral reefs under the sea close to the islands attract those who are interested in snorkeling. What every passenger who comes here does is, hire a boat and go around the islands which can be done in a few hours or catch a catamaran where meals and beverages are complimentary.
The action begins
If you have always wanted to swim close to sharks or other large fishes, there is a good population of them around these islands and these are not dangerous ones, so there is no need to worry about any bites. These islands also have inactive volcanic peaks, with 2 major ones that you can climb up to with a guide if you are interested in hiking. If history interests you, there are a few excavation sites here that will show you how life was here before the French colonized these and other islands around here. If you enjoy greenery there are plenty of jungles and orchids towards the interior of the islands.
Try the local cuisine
As for the cuisine, it is very different from what you are used to. As you would expect what you will get here, so far away is the local produce. Of course, there will be seafood and coconut items, the trees of which are here in plenty and a good sight for most tourists. There are items like raw fish in coconut milk or curry and there are enough restaurants to feed all the tourists in these islands. Tourism is what this island depends on for the economy and almost everyone here serves tourists directly or indirectly. Most people here speak Tahitian and French, while those in tourist-facing roles speak English too, a language they have had to learn out of necessity.
Final thoughts
You could consider Bora Bora for many reasons, for your honeymoon, for solo travel and certainly a place that you should consider for your family. Your young ones will learn a few new things including learning about a culture different from theirs. These islands are completely safe and secure, so you won’t have to worry about anything, allowing you to enjoy everything to the fullest.
