Try Walking Trails Along Some of the Most Beautiful Rivers in the World

24 Jan 2024

A holiday means different things to different people. Most of you will go for a change in scenery, to look at something different. Others will go to meet people who are different from them and try items from the local cuisines. Some others choose a destination because of the activities on offer. The rest will go because they have got some time off and they have nothing better to do. When you think of destinations, you think of beaches or mountains or forests or prairies. One thing that you all will do is walk along some beautiful sites. If you are planning a hiking trip along the walking trails, you may consider walking along the sides of rivers, with water on one side and greenery on the other.

You can choose your path

You will have to be careful and you must get close to the river only when you are comfortable swimming, just in case you slip. Most major American cities are based around rivers, so you must have walked along one already if you live there or have been on a trip there. It is different from walking along the beaches where you will usually find a large crowd. If you prefer solitude you can find many quiet places not just in the USA but across the world to spend your time, just admiring the view while taking in the sights and the smells. Below we have some suggestions for you that we believe you will like.

Virgin River, Utah

This over-a-hundred-mile river flows through the states of Utah, Arizona and Nevada. You can reach here through interstate highway, where you can drive along the Virgin River Gorge. You can park your vehicle at a suitable place and go for a walk along the river trail. You can even go to the Zion National Park, where you will get to see this river flowing between large canyons. In summer the water is not deep enough, so you can even walk in the river for as long as you like. It is a tributary of the Colorado River and has some of the rarest species of fish swimming through it.

Brisbane River, Australia

This is a long river that starts before Mount Stanley and meets the Coral Sea at the Brisbane port. It flows through a large part of Queensland, the large Northeastern state in Australia. If you prefer to play it safe you will find plenty of river trails in the city of Brisbane. There is a large manmade riverwalk which will allow you to get close to the river, you will be a few feet above it. There are several bridges over this river in the city and some picnic spots close to it. If you go beyond this city deep into the state, you will find small towns near this river and there you can have a quiet time walking along it.

Cape Fear River, North Carolina

This river is limited to the state of North Carolina. If you have always wanted to see the place where a river starts, come to the junction of Haw and Deep River. If you want to see the point where it ends, just come to Cape Fear, the place this river is named after. Even the East Coast Greenway runs along the river trail, so you will need plenty of time to cover long distances, walking or cycling. You can even come to Wilmington where a one and a half mile riverwalk is waiting for you. It is a recent development and a number of people spend quiet evenings alongside it.

Chicago River, Illinois

The history of this river and the Chicago city is intertwined together. It offered water to the residents, who nowadays use it and the trails along it for recreation. On St. Patrick’s Day the color of this river is dyed green. If you go to the city center at night to look at the skyline across the river, you will see large and impressive reflections. There are numerous bridges and a popular riverwalk, where you can brush shoulders with the people in the evening who work in the area. If you get bored of walking, you can ride boats on the river and see a large part of this large city.

Vltava River, Czech Republic

This is over a 400-kilometer-long river flowing through a large part of the Czech Republic. It has many tributaries and it is popular with tourists who come to Prague, the capital of the country it is in. There are numerous bridges here and buildings including hotels along it. You can travel to other parts of Bohemia, a large region of this country to get an opportunity to walk along the river trails. You can even walk inside the Bohemian Forest along this river to enjoy the views of a different kind. It also has several dams built on it before it leaves the country, so you can enjoy looking at large manmade structures.

Afterthoughts

Above we have recommended some rivers and the trails along them. This world has hundreds if not thousands of rivers, large and small. So, you can pick one and walk along it. It is always advised that you do some research first and make sure that the weather is fine on the days you will be along these rivers. Summers are hot, but there will be no chances of flooding.
